Job Board v2
Expanding Buildforce’s job discovery through map view
Buildforce’s Trades App restricted workers to viewing jobs within a 35-mile radius of their home, aiming to ensure relevant matches. However, this constraint frustrated workers willing to travel further and created inefficiencies for the Operations team, who manually shared out-of-radius opportunities. The project aimed to transform job discovery, increasing visibility for workers and reducing operational overhead.
Overview
As the Product Designer, I conducted research, designed an interactive map-based interface, and collaborated with developers to deliver a user-friendly solution.
My work focused on creating wireframes, prototypes, and final designs that empowered workers to explore jobs flexibly. This supported the goal of enhancing user experience and streamlining operations.
Approach
Research into user behaviors and competitor offerings revealed workers valued commute routes, neighborhoods, and markets over a fixed radius.
This led to designing an interactive map interface through iterative sketches, wireframes, and prototypes. Collaboration with developers ensured the solution balanced powerful search capabilities with the app’s intuitive design, addressing both user needs and technical feasibility.
Results and Impact
The new interface allowed workers to explore jobs visually, search by address or market, view details on the map, and save preferred areas, with the 35-mile radius as a default for familiarity.
This increased job visibility, improved user engagement, and reduced the Operations team’s manual workload. Successful implementation, supported by clear hand-off and stakeholder alignment, enhanced the app’s value for workers and the business.
